XTop is a Windows application. It opens your IDE, drives Windows Terminal and WSL, and needs a Windows desktop session for the tray icon and the always-on-top orb.

Which file to take

FileWhat it is
XTop Setup <version>.exeThe installer. Adds a Start-menu entry, a desktop shortcut, and an uninstaller. Take this one.
XTop-portable-<version>.exeA single file that runs as-is. Good for a USB stick or a machine you cannot install on.

Both are the same application. Neither needs Node.js or anything else installed first.

Windows will warn you

The app is not code-signed, so SmartScreen says the publisher is unknown. Choose More info → Run anyway.

After it starts

XTop does not open a window of its own — it goes to the tray, and puts a small floating orb on your desktop. Press Ctrl+Shift+Space, click the orb, or click the tray icon to open the panel.

Carry on with Getting started.

Start with Windows

Once it is installed, turn on Start with Windows from the tray menu, or from Settings. Pair it with startup projects and your work is already open when you sign in.
